AIR Music Technology's new Fabric Vintage Synths, Vol. 1 collection closes that gap, packaging multi-sampled recreations of three iconic analog synths into a single instrument with full MPE support running through every patch.
Three Synths, One Interface
Fabric Vintage Synths, Vol. 1 bundles three separate instruments under a shared architecture: Fabric Vintage Pro, modeled on the Sequential Prophet-5; Fabric Vintage Jup, based on the Roland Jupiter-8; and Fabric Vintage Memorymoog, built from the Moog Memorymoog. Rather than treating each as a standalone plugin with its own quirks, AIR built all three on a unified interface, so switching between a Prophet pad and a Memorymoog bass patch doesn't mean relearning where the filter envelope or LFO controls live.
Each instrument is built from dual multi-sampled oscillators plus a dedicated percussive layer, with a sub-oscillator and noise generator rounding out the low end and texture. Every layer gets its own filter, envelope, and LFO, on top of global modulation with BPM-syncable LFOs for movement that locks to a track's tempo. A five-slot effects rack covering distortion, delay, and reverb sits on top, alongside a dynamic arpeggiator with swing, ratcheting, and randomization for building evolving sequences without external tools.
Where MPE Fits In
The headline feature for expressive players is that MPE compatibility runs across all three instruments, not as an add-on mode but as part of the core architecture. Paired with an MPE controller — a LinnStrument, Roli Seaboard, or the Expressive E Osmose among others — that means per-note pitch glide, pressure, and timbral shifts can be applied independently across a chord voiced on any of the three vintage engines. On a multi-sampled Memorymoog bass patch, for instance, that opens the door to sliding individual notes in a chord while others stay fixed, something that isn't possible when a plugin is limited to single-channel MIDI.
Macro controls sit alongside the MPE implementation, giving players a way to map expressive gestures to broader parameter sweeps rather than just the standard pitch-bend-and-pressure pair, which is useful for performers who want a single physical gesture to control multiple synthesis parameters at once.
