MPE has been around long enough that it's no longer a niche curiosity, but support for it across digital audio workstations is still far from uniform. For anyone shopping for a DAW with expressive, per-note control in mind, it's worth knowing exactly where each major platform stands in 2026.
The DAWs that have embraced MPE
Ableton Live was one of the first mainstream DAWs to build in native MPE support, starting with Live 11 and continuing through Live 12. Live's own instruments, including Wavetable, Drift, and Sampler, respond to per-note pitch bend, pressure, and slide out of the box when fed an MPE controller, which makes it a straightforward starting point for players moving from a standard MIDI keyboard to something like a ROLI Seaboard or LinnStrument.
Bitwig Studio is generally considered the most MPE-forward DAW on the market. Its modular approach to sound design, including The Grid and its per-note modulation system, was built with expressive, per-note control in mind from early on, and it tends to be the DAW recommended most often by MPE-focused sound designers who want deep, per-note modulation routing rather than just basic pitch and pressure response.
Logic Pro rounds out the trio of DAWs with mature MPE implementations. Apple's Logic Pro handles MPE through MIDI's Mono Mode specification and supports MPE-capable instruments like Alchemy, giving Mac-based composers a fully native option without needing third-party MPE translation plugins.
The holdouts and the middle ground
Not every DAW has followed the same path. As of mid-2026, FL Studio has been notably quiet on native MPE, with Image-Line's public direction instead pointing toward MIDI 2.0's per-note controller model as the longer-term solution for expressive control, rather than implementing the MPE spec directly. Since MIDI 2.0 and MPE solve a similar problem in different ways, this puts FL Studio users in a slightly different position: expressive per-note control is on the roadmap, but it may arrive through a different technical path than Live, Bitwig, or Logic users are used to.

Avid previewed its first MPE support at NAMM 2026, but as of this writing it has not shipped in a public release, meaning Pro Tools users are still waiting on official rollout. What this means if you're choosing a DAW for MPE work
For musicians whose main reason for adopting MPE is expressive solo performance, pitch bends, pressure swells, timbral slides, any of Live, Bitwig, or Logic will get the job done, since all three handle the core per-note data correctly with their stock instruments. The choice between them tends to come down to workflow and sound design depth rather than raw MPE compatibility: Bitwig's modular routing rewards players who want to map expression data to unusual destinations, while Live and Logic offer a gentler on-ramp with mature stock instrument libraries.
For anyone whose primary DAW is FL Studio, Pro Tools, or Reason, the picture is more about waiting and workarounds. Third-party MPE-to-standard-MIDI utilities and MPE-aware plugin instruments can still get expressive playing into a session, but native, first-party support isn't there yet, or, in FL Studio's case, may arrive in the MIDI 2.0 form rather than as classic MPE.
The broader trend is encouraging even where support lags: with MIDI 2.0 adoption slowly picking up alongside MPE, the underlying goal, giving every note its own independent pitch, pressure, and timbre, looks increasingly like a permanent fixture of modern production rather than a passing trend, whichever technical standard ends up carrying it.
