MPE Insight connects to any class-compliant MPE controller and displays, in real time, exactly what it's transmitting: per-note pitch bend curves, pressure and aftertouch dynamics, and timbre (Y-axis or slide) movement. Rather than a single static readout, the app offers multiple visual engines you can switch between on the fly without interrupting the underlying gesture stream — bars, rings, particle fields, a flythrough tunnel, a kaleidoscope mode, contour maps, a spider-web rendering, and a DNA-helix-style view, among others.
That range matters for two different audiences. For sound designers and controller manufacturers, the more analytical views (bars, contour, spider web) function as a genuine diagnostic tool, making it possible to spot mapping errors, curve irregularities, or inconsistent pressure response that would otherwise be hard to isolate from raw MIDI data alone. For performers, the more abstract, generative views double as a visual layer for live performance — turning a musician's expressive input into an audience-facing visual that reacts in real time to the same gestures shaping the sound.
A Built-In Demo Mode
One detail worth calling out: MPE Insight ships with a Demo Mode that drives every visual module using simulated MPE data — synthetic pitch bend, pressure, aftertouch, and CC movement — so you can explore the entire feature set and every visual style before connecting any hardware at all. That's a genuinely useful onboarding choice for an app whose main audience owns controllers ranging from grid-based instruments to continuous-surface keybeds, since not everyone can test-drive a purchase before committing.
The app also includes a built-in MIDI monitor and recording functionality, letting users capture and review expressive data after a performance or practice session rather than relying entirely on what they can parse in the moment.

MPE Insight launched with an introductory price of €24.49, rising to a regular price of €34.99 after the initial launch window closed on July 11, 2026. It's currently available as a standalone application for Windows, with no confirmation yet of macOS support.

Tools like MPE Insight point to a maturing corner of the MPE world that gets less attention than new controllers or synth updates: tooling for understanding and teaching expressive playing.
